Dateline: Beoley, England 8-07-06
It is in fact the 8th day of the seventh month. They indicate the day, then the month here in England. (Some of you knew that already!)
A few things we've discovered:
*They use clothes lines to dry clothes.
*It rains without warning.
*Then it is sunny again.
*Then-- as you put your laundry out to dry for the 3rd time-- it rains again!
*All the houses seem to have names around here. We are staying in the Primrose Cottage. Part of the house was built 400 years ago. There are huge wooden beams in the ceiling throughout the house.
*They have Public foot paths! We hiked across private land for 2 hours today. It feels very un-American. Some of us did enjoy finding a Public Foot Path post that led into a thoroughbred race horse farm. The enormous black wrought iron gate was pad locked not 20 feet away from the Public Foot Path sign. A conflicting message, if there ever was one. Some of us marched right in; others called: Daddy, come back!
*It gets light at 4:30 a.m. and yes, the birds start chirping. The sun sets at about 10:30 p.m.
*The keyboard on this computer is different than our American version. There is "£" key and the ", %, @ are all in mysterious spots!!
*Children CAN survive more than 144 hours without television. (The world cup doesn't count.) Our goal is 5 months.
*Bonnie is reading Gone with the Wind. How shall we say, we do miss the kindness of southerners. Many of the people we have come across are not exceptionally outgoing. Did I say that nicely??

A final thought: We are glad we have dear friends that care about where we are and what we are doing!
warm thoughts, lynn
