Thursday, July 19th LONDON by Caroline
Today, we went to Westminister Abbey. On the way to the city, we went on a double decker bus. We sat on top. It felt cool, but it seemed like we were running over stuff.
We got off the bus and then rode a train into the city. We stopped at Charing Cross rail station. It was really hot and we were trying to make it to Buckingham Palace to see the changing of the guard. We were running late so we went to Westminister Abbey instead.
We had to wait in this LONG line to get into the abbey. It was disappointing because we were not allowed to take pictures inside. It was really cool to see the sculptures and the graves. We saw the tombs and listened to the audio tour. When we were about to leave, we saw the oldest room in the abbey. It was about 1000 years old and the door had 6 locks on it. The ceiling was an arch and had lots of cracks.
After that, we went out and looked for something to eat. We could not agree on a place to eat so we went back and forth to two different places eating in both. They were little cafes so no one noticed.
Then we wanted to look at Buckingham Palace so we walked a long way. When we were walking there, we saw all these ladies in hats. This man told us that the Queen was having a garden party and invited people to come into the garden and see her. They were just ordinary people. She holds 15 parties each summer. Yes, he said: she attends the parties!
It was kinda weird because as we were leaving to come home. I went to the restroom in the train station-- they call it the toliet, no one knows what you mean when you say restroom--- and you have to pay to use the restroom in the train station.
BYE for now!! Caroline and Mom

The bathroom stuff in other countries is always interesting. Have you started calling the toilet the "Lou" yet or the "WC"?

I appreciate your honest report about being hot and hungry and not being able to agree on a restaurant. Traveling is great, but sometimes very hard.
